Kathmandu, July 17
The Election Commission has demanded that Nepalis residing and working abroad be allowed to get registered in the voters’ list.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav today, UML Parliamentary Party leader Subas Chandra Nembang suggests that Nepali diplomatic missions in various countries can facilitate the process.
The Commission is currently updating the voters’ list, but Nepalis residing out of the country cannot register their names as per the current provision.
Likewise, the main opposition party also demanded that people from other districts but currently residing in Kathmandu Valley get an opportunity to register their names from the capital itself.
Earlier, the Commission had said the citizens should go to their district headquarters for the registration.
Meanwhile, the party also demanded that District Coordination Committees be formed in all 67 districts which have completed local level elections as soon as possible.
The UML, which has turned the strongest political force at the local level from recent elections, is likely to lead majority DCCs in these districts.
