Kathmandu, June 8
The Nepal government has begun a process to make the German airline company, Lufthansa, a strategic partner of the national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation.
A proposal for the decision has been sent to the Ministry of Finance by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
MoCTCA Secretary Shankar Prasad Adhikari says the proposal will be tabled to the Cabinet for final decision once the Ministry of Finance approves it.
Earlier, the NAC had invited tenders from international companies for the strategic partnership.
The closed invitation had been sent to the companies via Nepal’s diplomatic missions in Australia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
But, only the German company had sent the application.
Following the application, a MoCTCA task force had studied the proposal and decided that the company was qualified to become the partner.
The German giant had applied for the partnership in 2015 as well. But, the Sushil Koirala-led government had rejected the proposal after the company demanded three per cent of the NAC’s annual income for managing the operation.
