Call to make the next budget plan gender-responsive

Kathmandu, May 18

The Women and Social Affairs Committee under the House of Representatives has directed the ministries concerned to give importance to gender responsiveness in the budget plan for the new fiscal year 2022/23.

In the committee meeting held on Wednesday, the committee chair Niru Devi Pal directed the budget plan should ensure gender-equitable distribution of resources.

She also instructed the National Women Commission and Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens for coordinating the effort to achieve gender responsiveness in the upcoming budget, policies and programmes.

Chairperson Pal, on the occasion, informed that the committee asked the authorities concerned to reconsider taxes on the import of sanitary pads.
