Kathmandu, January 29
The Birghakatti village in Kaligandaki rural municipality-4 of the Syangja district in western Nepal has opened the Matribhumi Library which the founders claim will be crucial in advancing rural development in the district.
Former chief of the council of ministers, Khil Raj Regmi, inaugurated the library amid a function on Thursday last week. The function was attended by national and international guests who contributed funds and other support to the project.
Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Yutaka Kikuta, extended his virtual greetings to the event as the government of Japan had provided some funds to the project via the Shanti Volunteer Association. The ambassador said, “I hope that everyone in this community – from children to adults and regardless of gender – will make full use of this library to enjoy reading books. I wish this library will be the centre for the development of the community.”
Likewise, the association’s Nepal country director Hiroko Hagihara hoped this new library would be a place where people can find hope and contribute to the better future of the community.
Regmi echoed them and stated the library would be instrumental in helping locals realise fundamental rights of education and information as guaranteed in the constitution.
The Matribhumi Library construction project began in 2021.
