Kathmandu, October 17
The Adinath Fair at Chobhar Ridge, held annually on Ashwin Shukla Poornima, commenced this morning.
According to resident Harilal Shrestha, devotees from the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas gather to participate in the fair, which runs until Kartik Shukla Poornima.
Worshipping Adinath during the fair is believed to promote good health and protect against skin-related diseases.
The Adinath temple houses an integrated idol of Lord Shiva and Parvati, which is also venerated by Buddhists as a symbol of power. Shrestha emphasised that the site represents a shared cultural heritage for both Hindus and Buddhists.
Devotees have been offering various items and performing hymns at the temple since early this morning. Located about nine kilometres south of Kathmandu, the site also offers a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley.
