The standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has been deferred again.
The meeting scheduled to be held at 11 am today has been postponed until the same time Friday, informs Surya Thapa, the press advisor of Prime Minister and NCP chairman KP Sharma Oli.
The meeting has been put off as two rival factions in the party are yet to find out any consensus regarding the leadership of the party and the government.
Recently, a majority of the standing committee including chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has demanded that another chairman of the party, Oli, resign from both the positions of the PM and the party chair whereas Oli is adamant against the demand. The deadlock has led many to fear if the party, formed after the merger of the then CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre led by KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal respectively in 2018, would split again.
As the differences continued to escalate, the party leadership has halted the ongoing standing committee and the two chairmen are in conversation. The two leaders are meeting daily, but the consensus is still elusive.
