Biratnagar, May 6
A national unity government is a must for safe landing of national politics, Deputy Prime Minister and newly-elected Chair of Madheshi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhdar, said on Friday.
Gachchhadar, speaking at a press conference organised after the national convention of his party held in Biratnagar on May 2-4, said only a majority government can address problems facing the country. Political parties should strive to form a consensus government instead of trying to form a majority dispensation, Gachchhadar said.
After the convention, MJF-L has become a party of the Himalayas, the Hills and the Tarai, he reasoned, adding: The closed session of the party has elected representatives from different linguistic groups, ethnicities, religions, cultures and classes to its central working committee. Thus MJF-L has become a national party.
The convention has elected Gachchhadar as party chair and a 42-member central committee unanimously. The party will select another 55 CC members by taking Gachchhadar and other top party leaders and founding members into confidence.
It is learnt that the party is preparing to rename itself and issue its manifesto by taking a few important decisions.
