Janakpurdham, April 8
Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi has asked the government to conduct local elections without delay, pointing that the absence of elected representatives at local bodies has virtually stalled development works.
He said this at a ceremony held at Dhanushadham to lay the stone for the construction of Dhanushadham municipality’s office, on Friday. On the occasion, Subedi described the absence of elected representatives at local bodies as the major factor impeding development works. Development works will gain pace with the election of local representatives, he said. Local development hinges on the degree of strength of local bodies, he said.
Subedi pointed that new municipalities have left old ones far behind in terms of development. He directed municipalities, sub-metropolises and district development committees to speed up development works giving due consideration to local needs.
He advised stakeholders to make municipalities environment-friendly and ensure good governance there. Subedi pledged to make sure that there will be no dearth of budget for municipalities.
