Bidhya-Bhandari (1)Kathmandu, May 8

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, presenting the government’s policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2073-74, said on Sunday that the government will launch programmes with an aim to provide drinking water to all within two years. The government will also prioritise the repair and maintenance of drinking water projects that suffered damage in last year’s earthquakes.

In quake-affected districts, the government aims to provide drinking water and sanitation facilities in an integrated manner.

Apart from this, the government will launch projects to address the chronic water shortage in the Chure-Bhawar region. It will conduct research in the wake of drying up of water sources. It will also promote programmes like rainwater harvesting.

In small and big towns, the government will launch Janatako Khanepani programme. It will develop drinking water projects in coordination with local people. The government will also give priority to renewable energy projects.

It will also focus on nature conservation. In the Kathmandu Valley, it will start work on the construction of a national cultural museum.
