Kathmandu, April 25
Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli says he is ready to do whatever it takes to complete the reconstruction of individual households and historical and cultural monuments destroyed during the 2015 earthquake on time.
As the country marked the third anniversary of magnitude-7.6 earthquake on Wednesday, the government organised a commemoration event on the remnant of Dharahara, a centuries-old tower that collapsed during the earthquake, and the Prime Minister renewed his commitment to speedy reconstruction there.
“I will build my Dharahara. I will come to sweat over the shovel if it needs so. I am ready to carry bricks or do whatever it takes,” Oli said, “Every Nepali should internalise this motto. Let us do whatever we can.”
Oli was of the view that there was not much time available for the government as it now had the responsibility to lead the country towards development and prosperity.
“We do not have any time to wait. We need to speedily take the country towards economic advancement,” the Prime Minister said, “If we just continue singing the reconstruction song, when will we do actual reconstruction? When will we get prosperity?”
“The reconstruction process has to be well-managed. Let us expedite now.”
