Kathmandu, June 7
The Federal Alliance started its relay hunger strike on Tuesday in a bid to make the KP Oli government address its demands.
On the first day of the strike, alliance coordinator Upendra Yadav and other top leaders of the alliance comprising the United Democratic Madheshi Front and Janajati parties are staging the strike at Open Theatre, Kathmandu, from 7 am till 7 pm.
There will be around 30 FA leaders and cadres at the site. From 3 pm every day, FA will organise cultural programmes.
At the end of the day’s strike, a top leader will deliver a note of thanks. The relay strike will continue for about a month.
As part of protests aimed at making the state rewrite the constitution promulgated through a popularly-elected Constituent Assembly, the alliance has already encircled Singhadurbar, the government secretariat, and Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar. In the second phase, the alliance organised protests in different parts of Kathmandu.
The government has already invited the UDMF for talks. This has not gone well with the FA. It has been saying that it will not take part in the talks unless it gets the invite.
