Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused the main opposition CPN-UML of attacking his government’s effort to amend the Constitution. PM said this has made him sad, adding that he will revert to his old agenda if the UML does not comes in the way of effort to reach an understanding on amendment.
PM said his proposal on provincial boundaries is no different from the one that the UML had accepted in the past. He said this while talking to a Nepal Television programme.
He asked the UML if was trying to create an environment in which it will not be possible to implement the Constitution.
Prachanda said he was still in talks with the UML leadership and hopeful that there will be an understanding on amendment.
He added: If there comes a situation in which it will be impossible to amend the Constitution, keep the country united and conduct elections, I will have to revert to my own agendas.
Asked what those agendas were, Prachanda said: Our agenda is to connect Madheshis, indigenous nationalities, Tharu, workers and peasants, Himal, Hills and the Tarai. If the situation turns hostile, we may have to amend those agendas.
“I don’t want to do this. My stress is on reaching all-party understanding.”
Ongoing talks with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chair KP Oli are positive, PM said, adding that they have agreed on final round of talks (on amendment) on Tuesday.
Even if there is no agreement, the government will register its amendment proposal in the Parliament, he said.
