Kathmandu, January 12
The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has objected to Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe’s decision to postpone the House of Representatives meeting till Monday next week, January 20.
The meeting scheduled for this afternoon was postponed after the ruling Nepal Communist Party could not decide its candidate for the speaker’s election.
Earlier, the meeting was postponed twice in the past month due to the same reason.
The opposition party’s spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma says in a statement that the ruling party held the House hostage due to its internal dispute and it is disrespectful to the legislature.
The party has urged the ruling party and the government to begin procedure to elect the new speaker as soon as possible.
