Kathmandu, January 10
The district court of Kathmandu has sentenced cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was found guilty of rape, to eight years in prison.
The single bench of Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal at the Kathmandu District Court also ordered that he should pay Rs 500,000 in fine and comepensation.
According to the district court, apart from imprisonment, Lamichhane was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 300,000 and compensation of Rs 200,000 to the survivor, said Chandra Prasad Panthi, information officer of the District Court Kathmandu.
The court determined that Lamichhane had violated Section 219 (1, 2, and 3) (e) of the Civil Code 2017, as the act was non-consensual.
