Kathmandu, July 31

The Nepali government is reaching out to China for assistance in locating a bus and its missing passengers in the Trishuli River following a devastating landslide.

Home Secretary Eka Narayan Aryal announced that preparations are in progress to request China’s formal help in the search operation. “We are preparing to request assistance from the Chinese government for the search operation,” Aryal stated during a meeting of the Parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Wednesday.

On July 12, a landslide mixed with debris swept away two buses on the Mugling-Narayanghat road section at Simaltal. Out of the 65 passengers on board, only three managed to swim to safety. To date, 24 bodies have been recovered.

The fate of the remaining passengers and the buses is still unknown. In an earlier effort, Indian human resource was deployed to aid in the search for the missing passengers and vehicles.
