Kathmandu, May 3

Teacher and student organisations close to Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Maoist party have called for the closure of all schools based in the Kathmandu Valley, at a time when the new academic session has just begun.

The Biplav-led All Nepal Teachers’ Organisation and All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary issued the call for the release of ANNISU-R central committee member Prakash Adhikari and district committee member Bikas Adhikari, arrested six days ago for painting the face of Kathmandu district education officer Shankar Bahadur Gautam black.

ANNISU-R activists had staged a sit-in at Kathmandu district education officer against the arrest of the two. Police had arrested the cadres staging the sit-in as well.

The student union has threatened to launch an educational strike if police do not release the arrested cadres at the earliest.
