Kathmandu, April 5
Four student unions affiliated to the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and CPN-Revolutionary Maoist submitted a four-point memorandum to Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel on Tuesday, pressing the latter to address the four demands without delay.
On his part, Minister Pokharel described the demands as just and added that there’s a need to do away with obstructive rules and regulations to address these demands.
The unions have demanded fixing of school fees scientifically from this academic session itself, stopping Tribhuvan University from hiking tuition fees every year and continuation of 20 per cent scholarships that TU-affiliate campuses have been providing. They have also demanded an end to disputes between TU, Agriculture and Forestry University.
Minister Pokharel stressed the need to implement agreements reached in the past between the government and student unions, according to RC Lamichhane, a student leader.
