The Supreme Court has issued an interim order in the name of the government on Thursday, barring seven ministers from performing any duty as ministers.
The order issued by a single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana bars Ram Bahadur Thapa (Minister for Home Affairs), Top Bahadur Rayamajhi (Minister for Energy), Lekh Raj Bhatta (Minister for Industry), Mani Thapa (Minister for Water Supply), Prabhu Sah (Minister for Urban Development), Gauri Shankar Chaudhary (Minister for Labour), and Dawa Tamang (Minister for Youth).
Now, they cannot work as ministers until the final verdict on the case.
Earlier on Wednesday, two writ petitions were filed against their appointment citing the constitution bars a non-parliamentarian to serve as a minister for six months, only once, but these seven were appointed for the second time along with the reappointment of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli last week.
Responding to that, the court today observed reappointing a non-parliamentarian as a minister was against article 78 of the constitution.
