Kathmandu, September 14
The Supreme Court on Monday has issued an interim order against the government’s decision to end the suspension of land plot splitting.
A single bench of Justice Sushma Lata Mathema issued the order in response to a writ petition filed by advocate Santosh Bhandari. Also, the court has summoned both the petitioner and the defendant (Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation) to the next hearing on September 24.
Some days ago, Land Management Minister Padma Kumari Aryal had decided to end the three-year-old suspension. The decision, however, was criticised by stakeholders who argued it would promote unnecessary splitting of the agricultural land at the interest of traders.
The ruling party-aligned All Nepal Peasants’ Federation had also protested the decision.
