Kathmandu, March 18
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Friday he wants harmonious relations with both of Nepal’s neighbours — India and China — and wants Nepal to benefit from the two giants’ speedy development.
PM Oli, addressing the parliamentary International Relations and Labour Committee, said he is not interested in playing one neighbour against the other.
Briefing the committee about his upcoming visit to the northern neighbour, PM Oli said the talks in China will focus on using China as a transit. Discussions with the Chinese leadership will focus on reopening of the Tatopani customs, expansion of the road at Rasuwagadhi and transformation of the Kimathanka road into a two-lane road.
Other agendas include delays in the expansion of Ring Road, construction of an intercountry transmission line, construction of the 434-MW Upper Arun hydropower project and construction of the Kerung-Rasuwagadhi-Kathmandu rail link. He said the two sides will reach an understanding for signing a trade-related treaty, which will help increase bilateral trade.
Committee members suggested PM Oli to make sure that the visit becomes fruitful.
