The CPN-UML is holding a meeting of its standing committee on Monday to chart out its future strategy.
The meeting comes at a time when the Prachanda-government’s Constitution Amendment Proposal, meant to remove Hill districts from Province 5 for the creation of a Tarai-only province, has divided Nepal’s political parties into two camps: Those that support the Bill and those that oppose it.
UML Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung said there will be a meeting of the UML standing committee at party Chair KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Balkot. The meeting will evaluate the party’s protests on the streets and in the Parliament, he said, adding that the meeting will also chart out policies to move forward.

The situation calls for polarisation, he said, adding: On one side will be all patriotic leftist forces, while on the other will be India, Congress, Maoist party (CPN-Maoist Centre) and Madheshi Morcha. Keeping this scenario in view, our party meeting will chart out the future strategy.
The CPN-UML has been protesting in the Parliament after registration of a Constitution Amendment Bill in the House. Together with other forces, including the business community and political parties, it has been organising protests against the Bill designed to split Province 5 in Hill districts of Lumbini and Rapti zones.
