Kathmandu. March 2
The impact of the western low-pressure system, which brought two days of winter rain and snowfall, has reduced from today, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
However, as of 6 am today, light rainfall continues in a few areas of Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, and Bagmati Province.
Looking at the rainfall data from the past 24 hours on the department’s website, light to moderate rainfall has been observed across the country.
The winter rain system, which started in the Far Western region on Friday, has moved eastward. Senior meteorologist Shanti Kandel confirmed that this system has now moved out of Nepal since last night. She also stated that the weather has improved today, so there is no likelihood of rain or snowfall.
Heavy snowfall was recorded in high hilly and Himalayan areas on Friday and Saturday. The snowfall disrupted transportation in some districts.
On the Baglung-Rukum East border section of the Mid-Hill Highway, heavy snowfall made it impossible for vehicles to move, leaving passengers stranded. Rudra Prasad Neupane, the Chief District Officer of Rukum East, reported that passengers were rescued by clearing snow throughout Saturday, with three buses and other smaller vehicles being used for the evacuation.
Although the winter rain and snowfall caused difficulties for some travelers, farmers are happy as the rain has helped crops grow. The long-standing drought had put farmers in a difficult situation.
