The seventh edition of the Women of the World (WOW) Festival, an arts and culture festival, being organised by the British Council and hosted by Kathmandu Metropolitan City is happening on Saturday and Sunday ( November 23-24) at Nandi Keshwor Bagaincha and Nandi Ratri School in Naxal, Kathmandu.
WOW celebrates the achievements of women, girls and non-binary people as well as highlighting the obstacles that they face.
The festival will feature events like morning yoga and boxing, talk and conversation, music, dance and theatre performances. Some of the featured participants include Kunti Moktan, Subani Moktan, Rachana Dahal, Gaumaya Gurung, Miruna Magar, Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, Katha Ghera Theatre, Karnali Arts Center.
Over 200 women artists are participating in the festival.
During a press meeting on Tuesday, Rustom Mody, Country Director of the British Council said that the WOW festival is the celebration of women’s voices, potential and achievements.
“It is not just an event but also a platform for the conversation that matters. It is relevant for people of all ages,” Mody said.
Deputy Mayor of KMC, Sunita Dangol, was also present at the press meeting. Regarding the collaboration with the British Council for the WOW Festival Dangol said that KMC has been working on various programs related to gender issues. KMC wants to celebrate the achievements and potentials of women and this idea matches with the theme of WOW so the KMC collaborated with the British Council.
“Besides the stories of sorrows there are numerous achievements of women that need to be celebrated,” said Dangol.
