Kathmandu, December 9
Officials from Nepal’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation have started a count of tigers in two national parks and a wildlife reserve, the heartland of the Royal Bengal big cat in the country.
The count is being carried out at the Bardiya National Park, Banke National Park and Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, says the Department’s Assistant Ecologist, Rishi Ranabhat.
“We hold the census of tiger population in national parks and wildlife reserves every year and this count is a routine one,” said Ranabhat shared.
According to the department, other national parks will also count their tiger population in the months to come. Figures from the latest census (2013) show that there were 198 tigers in Nepal.
