A biopic on UML chief and former Prime Minister KP Oli has been announced. The movie, titled Rato Surya, will chronicle the formative years of the UML strongman, producers of the movie say.

The movie, which will be directed by Prasad Dahal, will star Anupam Sharma as ‘young’ Oli. The real Oli will then take over when the reel Oli reaches 45. For his job as actor in his own biopic, Oli will be paid a fee, according to director Dahal.

“We have been observing Oli for the past five years, noting down his idiosyncrasies, his lifestyle and every other details,” Dahal says.

Almost 18 months ago, Dahal had a chance to meet Oli at a screening of his previous film Sukhani, where Oli was the chief guest. Dahal had casually dropped the idea of directing a biopic on Oli and asked him to be a part of the movie as an actor.

“He responded with a hearty laugh,” says Dahal, “without saying anything.”

For the movie, Oli will have to shoot for a total of 10 days. “We have received a positive response from Oli regarding the schedule this time around,” says Dahal.

“The biopic will not only be about the glorification of an individual,” says Dahal.

The shoot will start in Aathirai, and will continue in several localities of Jhapa, Rautahat and Makwanpur.
