Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track study begins, National Planning Commission report in a month

National Planning Commission has initiated a study for expediting the construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track with government initiation.

A week ago, the government had assigned the commission to conduct a study on development of the project and submit a report within a month.

A committee under Min Bahadur Shrestha, NPC vice-chair, has already initiated the study.

The committee has decided to look into an already-prepared detailed project report and suggest changes in it.

After conducting the study, it will study investment options and procurement procedures. It will later forward suggestions to the government. Shrestha said the committee has already initiated DPR-related tasks.

After DPR presentation, the committee will conduct on-site inspection and identify areas of amendment. The committee has called a meeting with project officials on Sunday.

The aim is to construct the 76-km-long road within five years by investing Rs 1.12 trillion.

The committee has NPC member Hirendra Man Pradhan, Law Secretary Tek Prasad Dhungana, Finance Minister Shanta Raj Subedi, Physical Infrastructure and Transport Secretary Dhan Bahadur Tamang, Road Department Director-General Devendra Karki as members and Shatendra Shakya, chief of the Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track Project, as member-secretary.
