
Today marks a historic day for Nepali kho kho. Both the men’s and women’s teams have reached the finals of the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup being held in India.
Nepal’s women’s national kho kho team has achieved a historic milestone by reaching the final of the ongoing Kho Kho World Cup in India. On Saturday, the Nepali team defeated Uganda in the first semifinal, securing their spot in the championship match.
The match, held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Hall in New Delhi, saw Nepal dominate Uganda with a convincing 89-18 victory. Nepal will now face the winner of the second semifinal between South Africa and India in the title clash.
This marks the first time any Nepali team has reached the final of a World Cup in any sport, making it a monumental achievement for the nation. Competing in the Kho Kho World Cup and remaining undefeated on their way to the final represents a historic moment for Nepal’s sports history.
Undefeated streak
Nepal’s women’s team has maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament. They have played six matches so far and won all of them. Competing in Group C, Nepal secured victories in all four group-stage matches to emerge as the group winners and advance to the quarterfinals.
In the group stage, Nepal defeated Bhutan 93-24, Germany 73-34, Sri Lanka 110-10, and Bangladesh 84-24. In the quarterfinals, Nepal triumphed over Iran with a massive 103-8 victory to secure their place in the semifinals.
Men’s team in action
Meanwhile, Nepal’s men’s team also competed in the Kho Kho World Cup and faced Iran in the semifinal on Saturday. The achievements of Nepal’s kho kho teams are a significant boost for the country’s sports scene, highlighting the growing prominence of traditional sports on the global stage.
The finals for both teams are scheduled for today, with Nepal facing India in the title clash. The women’s final will begin at 7 pm, followed by the men’s final at 8:15 pm.
Both matches will take place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
