
Kathmandu, April 7
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell below the 2700 mark on Monday, closing at 2670 points—down by 33.33 points from the day’s opening of 2703.
Only 23 companies saw a rise in share prices, while 221 recorded losses. The daily turnover also dipped significantly, shrinking from Rs 7.84 billion the previous day to Rs 5.65 billion today.
All sectoral indices recorded declines. The trade sector was hit hardest with a 3.1% drop. Other sectors followed: banking (0.97%), development banks (1.11%), hotels and tourism (1.35%), finance (2.26%), hydropower (1.37%), investment (1.69%), life insurance (0.83%), manufacturing (1.42%), microfinance (1.03%), non-life insurance (1.22%), and others (0.44%).
Among the top gainers, Balefi Hydropower surged by 7.46%, followed by Butwal Power (6.63%), Sindhu Development Bank (6.44%), and Unnati Sahakarya Microfinance (6.11%).
On the downside, Upper Hewakhola Hydropower dropped the most by 9%, followed by Himalayan Power Partner (4.32%) and Samriddhi Finance (4.01%).
Based on trading volume, the top five companies were Himalayan Reinsurance, NRN Infrastructure, Nepal Reinsurance, Radhi Power, and Himalayan Power Partner.
