Kathmandu, February 27
ANNISU-R, the student wing of the ruling CPN-Maoist Centre, staged a demonstration in Kathmandu on Monday, demanding that Tribhuvan University conduct Free Student Union elections on schedule — on March 1. This comes at a time when it’s quite unclear as to whether FSU polls will take place on time due to clash of interest between different student unions.
ANNISU-R showed its strength in the Capital, accusing Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Student Union and ANNISU-R of the Biplav-led party of derailing the process for FSU elections.
Speaking at a corner meeting after the demonstration, ANNISU-R Chair Narendra Neupane said FSU elections should take place on March 1, no matter what. Neupane demanded that TU administration should conduct FSU elections on time, by coordinating with police and administration.
