Kathmandu, June 16

Dengue infection has spread over 71 districts in the country. The Dengue infection has spread to 57 districts as of May 23 and has now reached 71 districts.

A total of 1,130 people have been infected so far with the mosquito-borne infection in 71 districts, said Dr Gokarna Prasad Dahal of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population.

Last year, 51,143 people were infected with dengue in all the 77 districts. Meanwhile, 114 people have been infected with Dengue in Kathmandu, 27 in Bhaktapur and 18 in Lalitpur. The dengue virus is primarily transmitted from person to person through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquito.

Symptoms such as high fever, headache, sore eyeballs, body pain, knee joint pain, groin pain, etc. appear when a person is infected with the virus. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has appealed to all to take preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites, including among others using mosquito nets, wearing long-sleeved clothes, putting nets on the windows and doors of the house and using mosquito repellants. —
