The Parliament’s Development Committee has directed the government to make an annoucement, pledging to conduct local level elections within Baishakh-end (around mid-May, 2017). On Wednesday, the committee held discussions with Minister for Local Development, officials of the Election Commission and Local Level Restructuring Commission. Thursday’s meeting of the committee directed the government to receive the report of the restructuring commission without delay and create a conducive environment for elections.
At the same time, it directed the government to prioritise presentation of laws required for conducting elections in the Parliament as well as implementation of the Constitution and federalism.
It asked parties represented in the Parliament to put the task of conducting local level elections at centrestage through political understanding and mutual cooperation.
Development Committee Chair Rabindra Adhikari said the committee has directed the government to ensure that Election Commission has no dearth of means and resources.
