Kathmandu, January 28
The umbrella organisation of Nepali medical doctors, Nepal Medical Association, says it will stage a relay hunger strike in solidarity with medical education reform activist, Dr Govinda KC.
Dr KC is staging a fast-unto-death demanding that the government correct National Medical Education Bill as per an agreement signed with him earlier, for past 20 days.
The NMA informs that its protest programme is aimed at putting pressure on the government to take initiatives for the talks with the fasting doctors at the earliest.
The organisation’s President Mukti Ram Shrestha warns of halting all medical services except the emergency if the government does not begin any conversation in next two days.
Members of the Association will stage the hunger strike at the TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu and their own hospitals and Association’s offices outside Kathmandu, according to him.
The strike, which began at 10 am, will continue till 5 pm.
