What is this game that Nepal PM is playing with restructuring panel officials? Hide n seek?

The ambigious game no one understands

  • Local Level Restructuring Commission officials say they sought PM’s time a week ago to submit a report on local level restructuring
  • They say PM has been willing to receive the report. They point that PM cancelled today’s meeting with them at the last minute
  • A source at PMO, however, said PM has been too busy to sort out political matters, so he had to cancel the meeting.
  • The source says there was no plan to submit the report today. It was supposed to be a meeting between PM and commission officials

Kathmandu, December 27

Officials of the Local Level Restructuring Commission have a complaint against Prime Minister Prachanda. They have lamented that Prachanda has refused to receive the commission’s report on local level restructuring.

The commission under Balananda Poudel readied the report a week ago, say officials, complaining, however, that the government has refused to receive the report.

As commission officials wrote to PM complaining that their efforts to hand over the report have been in vain, PM promised to meet them at Singhadurbar at 10.30 am.

But PM cancelled the meeting at the last minute. A source at Prime Minister’s Office told Onlinekhabar: We had scheduled a meeting with PM at Singhadurbar today, but cancelled it. The source claimed that it was supposed to be a meeting between PM and commission officials and submitting and receiving the report was not on the agenda. PM, according to the source, did not come to Singhadurbar as he had some important political matters to attend to (at Baluwatar) on Tuesday.

For political discussions, Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi reached Baluwatar on Tuesday morning.

Commission officials said they had sought PM’s time a week ago to submit the report, but the latter had not fixed time for the same as yet. But the source gave a different reason for this. PM, the source said, was not willing to receive the report as it would be deemed full and final once he received it, meaning the number of local levels cannot be changed once he receives it.

Parties have not reached an agreement on the number of local levels as yet. The matter will be considered closed if PM receives the report right away.
