Kathmandu, September 11
The government is preparing to launch a mass transit system in the Kathmandu Valley. In the first phase of this project, it has signed an agreement with Samakhusi Transport and Safa Tempo Association.
In the first phase, the association will operate 17 big buses from New Buspark to Gongabu, Thamel, Lainchaur, Keshar Mahal, Ratnapark, Exhibition Road, Kalikasthan, Maitidevi, Old Baneshwor, KMC Sinamangal and Airport, the Department of Transport Management informed.
Asian Development Bank will provide loan for operation of the new transport system. The bank will provide half of the sum required for the purchase of these buses as loan.

ADB has earmarked $20 lakh for the project. Disabled-friendly buses will chug along these routes. The buses will be big enough to carry a large number of passengers, equipped with latches and will have two doors to facilitate entry and exit of passengers with ease.
