Nepal suffered a defeat against Scotland in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, making their chances of reaching the Super Six stage extremely difficult.
Chasing a target of 74 runs set by Nepal, Scotland reached the target with eight balls to spare, losing nine wickets in the process. Nepal’s Simana KC and Rachana Chaudhary took two wickets each, but it was not enough to secure a victory.
Scotland’s Pippa Spraul played a vital role, scoring a brilliant 35 runs to keep her team in contention.
Earlier, Nepal won the toss and elected to bat at the USD-UKM Oval in Bangi but were all out for just 73 runs in 18.5 overs. Captain Puja Mahato top-scored with 27 runs, while opener Sabitri Dhami added 10. No other Nepali batter managed to reach double digits. Puja faced 43 balls and hit three boundaries in her innings.
For Scotland, Maisie Maceira delivered a stellar performance, claiming five wickets for just 15 runs in 3.5 overs. Amy Baldy and Naima Sheikh also chipped in with two wickets each.
Nepal had previously lost to Bangladesh in their opening match. To advance to the Super Six stage, Nepal will now need to beat Australia in their final match and rely on favourable results from Scotland’s remaining games.
