Kathmandu, August 2
The National Investigation Department of Nepal, blamed for its weak handling of cases, wants to get rid of its non-performing staff. The intelligence agency has proposed a golden handshake offer to give retirement to under-performing staff.
The proposal has been forwarded to Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs through Ministry of Home Affairs for consultation.
NID chief Dileep Regmi had taken initiatives to formulate the plan after new Home Minister Janardan Sharma complained that the NID was not performing well when he monitored the Department after taking charge around two months ago. Regmi had assigned Additional Chief Investigation Director, Ganesh Adhikari, to draft a proposal.
Adhikari and his team have identified that those who have already crossed the age of 45 and worked for more than 20 years are not performing well. Therefore, they had proposed to give them retirement with a sum equivalent to seven years’ salary.
Such group includes around 500 staff, but the Department estimates to send around 250 to 300 home this time.
