Kathmandu, November 12
A Buddha Air flight carrying Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has departed from Pokhara en route to Bhairahawa.
RSP treasurer Deepak Bohora confirmed the plane’s departure from Pokhara. Police are transporting Lamichhane to Rupandehi for a statement, opting to take him to Bhairahawa by plane.
Earlier, flights were delayed at both Bhairahawa and Pokhara airports due to low visibility, but they resumed once weather conditions improved.
The Buddha Air flight carrying Lamichhane and a police team is expected to land at Bhairahawa shortly.
Lamichhane, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister was arrested in Kathmandu on October 19 in connection with a fraud case involving Suryadarshan Cooperative. Authorities extended his detention by 13 days to facilitate questioning in Rupandehi. Additionally, an arrest warrant has been issued against him in Butwal for alleged fraud in the Supreme Cooperative case.
According to reports by the parliamentary investigation committee and police, Rs 19.6 million was transferred from the Supreme Cooperative in Butwal to Lamichhane’s name, and Rs 142.9 million reached Gorkha Media Network through other individuals.
The report also states that Rs 50 million was transferred from Suryadarshan Cooperative to Gorkha Media. Lamichhane is under investigation for cooperative fraud, organised crime, and money laundering.
