Rabi Lamichhane released on Rs 6 million bail by Kathmandu District Court

Kathmandu, January 16

The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of former Home Minister and President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane, on a bail of NPR 6 million.

The order was issued by Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari’s bench following a detention hearing regarding the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case.

While the judge’s order is in the final stages of preparation, court staff outside the bench have already informed about the bail decision. Following the order, Lamichhane’s representatives are preparing to deposit the bail amount at the Kathmandu District Court.

Lamichhane was recently released on Rs 6.5 million bail by the Kaski District Court last Thursday in connection with the Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case. Prior to his release, he had been in police custody for 84 days. After the Kaski court’s decision, he was handed over to his family with the condition to appear before the Kathmandu District Court, where he appeared on Sunday.

Lamichhane, along with 39 other individuals, has been named as defendants in a case involving the misappropriation of funds from the Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative located in Kalimati, Kathmandu.
