Hearing on Rabi Lamichhane’s pretrial detention begins

Kathmandu, January 13

The hearing on the pretrial detention of Rabi Lamichhane, chairperson of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), began today at the Kathmandu District Court. Lamichhane has been implicated in the misappropriation of funds from the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative in Kathmandu.

Advocate Yagya Mani Neupane, former head of RSP’s Disciplinary Commission, confirmed that the hearing commenced this morning.

Lamichhane, who was released last Thursday after posting a bail of Rs 6.5 million in a separate fund embezzlement case involving Surya Darshan Cooperative in Pokhara, appeared at the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday.

He voluntarily presented himself before the court as another cooperative-related case is pending against him in Kathmandu. However, as Sunday’s pretrial hearing could not be concluded, he was placed in judicial custody.
