Prominent wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa has passed away at the age of 64. Sherpa breathed his last at 12:15 am on Sunday at Grande Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for liver-related issues for the past week.
A resident of Lukla in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-1, Solukhumbu, Sherpa had been on a ventilator before his demise, confirmed Ward Chairperson Phunuru Sherpa.
Chungba Sherpa is survived by two sons and three daughters. Apart from his contributions to wildlife photography, Sherpa was actively involved in politics as the president of the Nepali Congress in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality. He had also served as the former chairperson of Chaurikharka Village Development Committee and was engaged in the tourism sector.
In recent years, Sherpa gained recognition for his work in wildlife photography, collaborating with various national and international photography organisations.
