In the final group-stage match of the Women’s Day Cup, currently taking place in Uganda, Nepal secured a victory over Hong Kong. On Friday, Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 6 wickets.
Chasing a target of 105 runs set by Hong Kong, Nepal completed the chase with 3 balls to spare, losing 4 wickets in the process. Smriti Khadka was the top scorer for Nepal, making 47 runs, while Pooja Mahato remained unbeaten on 20 runs. Indu Barmar scored 18 runs. For Hong Kong, Mehak Deep and Lai Win took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Hong Kong scored 104 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets. Although at one point, a total of around 130 runs seemed likely, Hong Kong only managed to add 8 runs in the final 4 overs.
Shanjin Shahzad played an impressive knock for Hong Kong, scoring 54 runs off 47 balls, marking the first half-century of the tournament. Chan Ka Ying contributed 16 runs, and Yasmin Daswani added 14 runs.
For Nepal, Rajmati Airee was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. Captain Indu Barma took 2 wickets for 12 runs in 4 overs. Puja Mahato and Ishwori Bist each took 1 wicket.
With 4 losses in 6 matches, Nepal’s chances of making it to the final by finishing in the top 2 are now over. Nepal has already been confirmed as the fourth place team in the group.
Nepal has accumulated only 4 points from 6 matches, while Uganda, Namibia, and Hong Kong each have 6 points. After today’s second match, the two teams that will play in the final will be decided.
The top 2 teams will compete in the final, while the 3rd and 4th place teams will play for 3rd place.
In earlier matches, Nepal lost to Namibia, defeated Uganda, lost to Hong Kong, and again lost to Namibia.
