Kathmandu, July 2
The Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range has arrested 40 leaders and cadres of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Maoist party, red handed from Nepaltar on the northern outskirts of Kathmandu this afternoon.
They were arrested for their alleged involvement in ‘suspicious activities’, police said.
According to SSP Bishwaraj Pokharel at the Range, a case has been filed against seven of them under the Some Public Crime and Punishment Act.
The case has been filed against former minister and the party’s leader Padam Rai, the party’s politburo member Bharat Bam, central member Ranasingh Pun Magar, Om Prakash Pandey, Dhirendra Upadhyay, Ek Raj Rai, and Siddhanta Rai.
Of the arrestees, Upadhyay was also accused of planting a bomb at the house of then Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav.
“Remaining other arrestees were released after they promised not to get involved in activities that would create fear and threat among common people,” informed Pokharel.
