Kathmandu, December 15

Protesters have shut down two districts in mid-west Nepal demanding that the government withdraw its proposal to remove hill districts from Province 5.

Following a four-day shutdown call, life has been affected in the districts with markets remaining shut and vehicles remaining off the road.

According to local reports, local UML leaders are leading protests saying that the government’s constitution amendment proposal is against Nepal’s national interest. UML Pyuthan chief Tulsiram Sharma says the protests are part of the UML’s pre-announced anti-government agitation.
