Kathmandu, April 5
The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday called Chief of the Metropolitan Crime Division, SSP Dibesh Lohani, to the Nepal Police headquarters in connection with the death of a gold smuggling suspect in Morang district in the first week of March.
Sanam Shakya, who reportedly worked for a smuggling racket as a mule, was found dead in Urlabari-7 of Morang on March 3. Upon investigation, it was suspected to be a murder case and police were also found to be involved.
A team led by MoHA Joint Secretary Ishwar Paudel had carried out the investigation. The headquarters had formed a separate panel to probe the case.
Though police arrested three persons on the charge of murdering Shakya, the actual smuggler is still on the run.
