Nepal’s energy minister says he was offered Rs 100 million to rig Nepal Electricity Authority’s chief executive’s selection process.

A total of five people came with an offer of Rs 100 million in exchange for appointment to the post, but I refused, said Sharma, speaking at a programme in Morang on Wednesday morning. “I refused the offer and that is how I could significantly reduce powercut hours,” he added.

Sharma, however, did not disclose who the people were.

Energy Ministry Secretary Anup Upadhyaya, who shared the stage with Sharma, directed NEA staffers to continue the good work. He said cutting loadshedding hours would not have been possible without the support of staffers.
