Gyanendra: External forces’ undue influence on the rise in Nepal

gyanendra-2

Kathmandu, December 21

Nepal’s former king Gyanendra Shah says undue influence of ‘external forces’ in Nepal’s politics is on the rise, and this has eroded the power of the state, and its people.

The former monarch, who usually issues scathing remarks in his statements on important festivals and historically important dates, broke the tradition by writing to the press on Wednesday, a day which does not coincide with any cultural or political event.

The statement comes as the country’s major political parties remain divided on the issue of constitution amendment and implementation of the new charter.

Nepal’s people are its permanent source of state powers, but unfortunately, ‘temporary’ sources of state power have arisen in the country under the influence of external forces, Shah says in his statement. According to a source close to Shah, the former monarch believes that foreign countries are meddling in Nepal’s internal affairs using INGOs and GOs to push their agenda.

He also criticised the major political parties and accused them of taking issues such as communal harmony, lightly. Words such as ‘revolution’ and ‘sacrifice’ are being misused to weaken the state, and that is increasingly becoming unbearable, he adds.

The Nepali people have not lost the love for their land, and they need to rise to save the country, he says appealing to the people to act before it is too late.
