Ram Chalitar Mahato, the deputy mayor of Lahan municipality in the Siraha district of eastern Nepal, has faced an attempted rape charge.
Subas Budhathoki, the District Police Office information officer, Subas Budhathoki, says the police will try to arrest him after receiving an arrest warrant from the District Court.
In the complaint received by the police, a local woman claimed that Deputy Mayor Mahato enticed her into going into his office with the promise of a job as a computer operator.
The attempted rape incident occurred in May or June. However, it was reported to the police just this week.
It has been learned that the police initially refused to receive the complaint and were ready only after the local rights activists’ pressure.
The Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal leader is incommunicado since the complaint was filed.
