Oppo Reno12 5G: Elegant and powerful premium mid-range option

Oppo has launched its premium mid-range smartphone, the Oppo Reno12 5G, in Nepal. The Reno12 is the successor to the Reno11 5G, which was launched in January this year. The Reno12 is part of the Reno12 series, including the Reno12 Pro, Reno12 F, and Reno12 F 4G. The Reno series has been a tough competitor in the premium mid-range option in Nepal.

The Reno12 5G has some major changes from its elder sibling the Reno12 Pro to make it affordable. The major differences can be seen in the build, weight, rear camera, selfie camera and colour options. There is a difference in the design. The Reno12 has a curved frame and back whereas the Reno12 Pro has a flatter frame and back.

The Reno12 is set to compete against other premium mid-range options like the Honor 200, Samsung Galaxy A55 5G, Vivo V30 5G and Realme GT 6T.

Specifications of Oppo Reno12 5G

Design and Display

The design of the Oppo Reno12 5G is very similar to the Reno12 Pro but very different from the Reno11. The design of the Reno12 is sleek and aesthetic with a slightly curved back. The back is made up of plastic and has a silky smooth feel. The Astro Silver colour option has a wavy design on the back whereas the Matte Brown colour option has a simple smooth matte finish. The frame is also slightly curved with a shiny metallic finish.

The front of the Oppo Reno12 5G has a premium finish with thin bezels on the top and the chin. The sides are slightly curved for a more premium finish. The top of the display includes a centrally located hole punch cutout for the selfie camera. It features a 6.7-inch 3D Flexible AMOLED display with a 93.2% screen ratio which offers a Full HD+ resolution of 2412 x 1080 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, with touch sampling up to 240Hz. The display supports vibrant colours, offering up to 1.07 billion colours and various colour modes, including Vivid, Gentle, Cinema and Brilliant.

The display has a pixel density of 394 PPI and a peak brightness of up to 1200 nits in extreme lighting conditions. The screen is protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass 7i. It also has an IP65 rating for protection against dust and water.

Performance and Storage

The Oppo Reno12 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, featuring an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. The graphics processing is handled by the Arm Mali-G615 GPU for smooth graphics performance and multitasking. As for the operating system, the smartphone features ColorOS 14.1 based on Android 14. Oppo is set to provide two years’ worth of OS updates.

The Reno12 5G is available in one memory option of 12GB LPDDR4X RAM paired with 512GB
UFS 3.1 storage.

Camera

The Oppo Reno12 5G has a triple rear camera setup which includes a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 79° field of view, a 5P lens and autofocus with optical image stabilization (OIS). The ultra-wide-angle camera has an 8MP lens with an f/2.2 aperture, a 112° field of view and a 5P lens. The third lens is a 2MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture, an 89° field of view and a 3P lens.

For video recording, the rear camera supports 4K resolution at 30fps, as well as 1080P at 60fps and 30fps, and 720P at 30fps. The camera also features video stabilization; EIS and OIS across all resolutions for smooth and stable footage. Video zoom is available in 4K at 30fps, 1080P at 60fps/30fps and 720P at 30fps. For slow-motion recording, it supports 1080P at 480fps or 120fps, and 720P at 960fps or 240fps.

The rear camera of the Reno12 5G offers a variety of shooting modes for different scenarios. The rear camera supports Pro, Video, Photo, Portrait, Night, Extra HD, Pano, Slo-Mo, Time-Lapse, Dual-view video, Sticker, Document Scanner and Google Lens modes. The front camera includes modes like Video, Photo, Portrait, Night, Pano, Time-Lapse, Dual-view video, and Sticker, among others.

The Oppo Reno12 5G features a 32MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture, a 90° field of view and a 5P lens, with autofocus support. For video recording, the front camera supports resolutions of 4K, 1080P and 720P at 30fps. Video stabilization is available at 1080P and 720P with support for video zoom and time-lapse. However, slow-motion recording is not supported on the front camera.

Battery and Others

The Oppo Reno12 5G features a 5000 mAh battery that ensures at least a day’s worth of performance. It supports 80W wired charging charging the smartphone from 0 to 100% in about 50 minutes. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6 for stable and fast internet, Bluetooth 5.4 for improved wireless communication and support for both LTE and 5G networks. It also has a slot for dual Nano-SIMs ensuring flexibility in managing multiple phone numbers.

For audio, theReno12 5G includes stereo speakers, providing an immersive sound experience. In terms of sensors, it has a geomagnetic sensor, proximity sensor, in-display optical fingerprint sensor, acceleration sensor, gravity sensor, gyroscope and an infrared remote control.

The Oppo Reno12 5G is available in two colour options; Astro Silver and Matte Brown.
