Kathmandu, January 6

Nepal’s opposition parties are set to stage a ‘show of strength’ in Kathmandu on Friday to protest the government-sponsored bill to amend the new constitution to address the demands of the Madhesh-based parties.

Nine opposition parties, including the CPN-UML are organising a mass meeting on Exhibition road Friday afternoon. Organisers of the rally say they expect more than 150,000 people to show up at the event.

UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli, and leaders of other opposition parties will address the meeting, organisers have said.

Traffic is expected to haywire in the city as rallies from different parts of the city will converge near the Tundikhel Parade ground in the capital.

The opposition parties are demanding that the government withdraw the amendment bill, which proposes a revision to the delineation of provincial boundaries, ‘removing’ hilly areas from Province 5.
