Kathmandu, October 18
The Public Life of Women: A feminist memory project, a travelling exhibition that celebrates Nepal’s rich feminist history, opens on Friday at Trijuddha Mahavir Prasad Raghubir Ram School, Birta, Birgunj. Organised by Nepal Picture Library, the exhibition will run from October 18 to 20, from 10 AM to 5 PM daily.
According to the organisers, the primary aim of this project is to preserve and promote Nepal’s feminist history through visual archives, oral history, and community engagement. The exhibition seeks to highlight the contributions of women in public life and establish their historical significance in Nepali society.
After Birgunj, the second phase of the exhibition will travel to Janakpur, where it will be hosted from October 24 to 26 at Tirhutiya Gachhi.
In Janakpur, the exhibition will coincide with the Bhoomi Folk Festival on October 26, 2024.
This nationwide tour will be based on exhibition loops in seven different regions, making the records of women’s history accessible and relevant in both rural and urban areas. The other phases of the exhibition will be held in Pokhara, Baglung, Palpa, Dang, Rolpa, Ilam, Jhapa, Biratnagar, Dharan, Bhojpur, Butwal, Bharatpur and Hetauda.
